About us
History
In 1986 a group of local childminders began meeting once a week at the Toc H. Following a visit from Sue Griffin, the SW region training co-ordinator for NCMA (National Childminding Association) our local group was formed.
Since then the JACC (Jersey Association of Child Carers) has grown considerably and we now have approximately 80 members - there are around 95 registered family child carers in Jersey at the moment.
Our Website
The JACC website was launched in June 07. It is continuing to grow from strength to strength and is being used by more and more people. The feedback from parents using the website have been positive, with special mention being made to the personalised vacancies. They've commented on how much easier it is to find somemone for their specific needs ie age, location, hours etc. Alot of parents have also found the 'Parents Page' to be very helpful to them when interviewing prospective family child carer.
Any member can advertise their child vacancies, ensuring the details are specific to the service they offer e.g. times available/age of child/ren etc. This vacancy page has a map of Jersey showing the parish vacancies.
A very useful page is the one with lots of extremely useful websites full of ideas for your work with children.
The parents page has information about the requirements of registration, child ratios and sample questions to ask to a potential family child carer.
The JACC website is very user friendly and definately worth a visit.
Advantages
We offer our members a discount of £15 for the First Aid course that we all have to update every 3 years.
We have negotiated a 10% discount at Bambola, Imagination and Paperclix on production of your JACC membership card. The Early Learning Centre also offer Registered Family Child Carers a 10% discount and they will issue their own card when you show your current Registered Certificate.
Written agreements are available on joining the association, which is to be signed by child carer and parent when agreeing terms. The association will only support members using the current agreements. Members are reminded that agreements should not be ammended and only JACC members are permitted to use them.
Last, but by no means the least important of any benefit is the opportunity to meet up with other family child carers at our toddler groups and gain help and support, discuss any problems or issues you have and make friends.
We have a number of social evenings throughout the year where we can enjoy friendships, let our hair down, have a good time and recover from the stresses and strains of the job!
